Molly

Speaking of old friends....I've been missing an old friend of mine, Molly. I met her my junior year of High School, in Colorado, when I was doing all those bad things I briefly mentioned in this post. Molly and I quickly became best friends (BFF). We were so inseparable in fact that I moved in with her for the summer before my senior year. My parents were moving to Cali and Molly and I could not imagine our lives apart.

Sadly though, since the year 2000, she has been lost to me. Out of touch. Unreachable. You may remember her from a post during my depression phase last year when I was sending out Christmas cards trying to see who still loved me. Hers came back. After the attempted Christmas card I looked her up on every free people-search I could find. I sent out 3 letters to 3 different addresses but they, along with the Christmas card, all came back "undeliverable".

A few weeks ago I tried to find her again. I resorted to looking up her parents whose names I did not remember. I did remember that her Dad was a dentist in Colorado so I scrolled past several people with the same last name until I stumbled upon a dentist named Terry, and at that moment I knew my search might have sprung a fucking leak. Terry. From there the memory of Molly's Dad Terry, walking down stairs during one of our last minute keg parties in his whitey tighties, swept over me with emotion. I had no choice but to send a letter to Terry and demand that he have her call me.

FINALLY -- after eons of loneliness and yearning -- she's called. Now married (again) and with a baby (again) I've reconnected with Molly. Choirs of angels sang Ace of Base and Alanis Morsette when I heard her heavenly voice.

Molly, I've missed you. And after all my anguish and suffering I dedicate this post, and the following pictures, to you.

Aw, that is such a cool story! I am so glad you got to connect with her again! I have a friend I lost contact with in 2000 also. She and her family were stationed at Andrews when I was there, and even after I left in 1997 when I divorced my husband, she and I still visited each other. But they left sometime in 2000 and we lost touch. She never was good at keeping in touch, and she told me that years before! I miss Terri!

Molly has never been good either but she'd always call out of the blue. Then I just never heard from her again -- and it saddened me!

I know, it is so hard! Terri and I had so much in common, and for them to PCS and BOOM all of a sudden not hear from her at all, it's really tough. I've kept in touch with so many people I met over the years through the military (having once been married to a military guy).

I imagine keeping in touch is much easier now with e-mail. Back in MY DAY we had to put an actual stamp on things and write down a zip code....imagine THAT!

Ok Jaq -- but still...I bet you (we) all pay our bills via e-mail now, right? It's just INSANE! Although, I do have to say, my parents yell at me A LOT LESS for long distance phone bills!!
