To be 21

Today is my co-workers 21st birthday. Oh to be so young again: young, thinner, and broke. Well broke but with plastic. With plastic but not able to afford your own car repairs. Repairs on the car that is cheap anyway. Ah rent. The rent that you just can’t seem to prioritize over that new $70 bathing suit and the bar tab you ran up that you can’t pay for....yes...21.

Today I reminded her of lesson #1.

DUI $1,500.00 + New Car $12,000.00 + Insurance Primiums post DUI $3000.00 per year = It’s Cheaper to take a cab.

Take it from me.

Now, can you imagine this sweet girl in hand cuffs? I think...if you look closely...you can still see the dent in my wrist from the prison cuffs.

Premiums, and what car did you buy for 12,000?

Ok, well I bought 3

1 - 1997 Hyundai Excel $4,000.00 + interest

1 - 1998 Hyundai Accent $6,000.00 + interest

1 - 1999 Hyundai Sonata $5,500.00 + zero interest & still paying for

Totaling more than $15,500.00 (and these were NOT paid for by Mom & Dad!)

HOWEVER - The person who I gave the advice to has a little Neon of which I'm sure a used replacement, in equal condition, would run her $10k to $12k.

I will never buy a new car ever again. I always buy used.

I wouldn't want to be 21 again. I wouldn't mind being 30 again. That's when life begins! You're taken seriously, you still look good. Many benefits to being 30. Believe me!

Oh! I forgot to tell you! You look like that model Janice Dickinson in her early days of modeling. She was gorgeous!!! (You just need to put a muzzle on her now!! YIKES!!!)

And hey, how come you won't be at Kaycee and Chris' party?????? I really wanted to meet you guys, too! AW

Jess,

I thought you were saying 12,000 for one car and I was wondering what car you ever had that was worth 12,000, no offense.

MMM - You WERE being offensive, and intentional. No, I have not had a car worth over $12,000 OR not worth over $12,000.00 but yet paid $12,000. I have intentionally chosen to not live outside of my means. Plus, with a $3000.00/year insurance premium for 5 years -- I was happy with my low car payment.

Jaq,

We can't come to the party b/c we promised our friends Deannie and Dean, a year ago, that we'd go camping with them on Easter. It's a big event for her and we can't miss it!

Bummer -- it would have been great to meet you guys. Must take pictures!

You certainly can't break a date and disappoint your friends after you've made plans with them! I hope you guys have fun. (Lots of pix, too!!!)

I'm looking forward to making more trips down to Maryland to hang out in the future. There'll be more opportunities, I'm sure! Chuck's nephew and his wife are stationed at Andrews, too. I really miss that area!
